FOOTBALL’S COMEBACK NEGATED BY PENALTIES

The Varsity Football team competed hard once again in week 2 of the season, but unfortunately fell at the hands of Solon by a final of 14-10. The Mustangs trailed 14-0 in the 1st quarter, but their defense was able to hold the Comets scoreless the rest of the way.

The Mustangs were able to crawl back into the game with an 80 yard run from Kendrick Boddie early in the 2nd quarter. The Mustangs were then able to chip away at the Comets lead with a field goal late in the 3rd quarter to trail 14-10 after 3.

The 4th quarter was a very intense and competitive football game. The Mustangs defense held Solon on a couple of 4th down opportunities and made the last 3 minutes of the game interesting. After getting a fumble recovery at mid-field with just under 3 minutes to play, the Mustangs went to work and quickly chopped away 30 yards in a minute. The next play, Kendrick Boddie spun out of a tackle and was on his way into the endzone for the Mustangs go ahead score. The play was negated by a block in the back call on the Mustangs. 2 plays later, the Mustangs executed a great pass play to hit their TE for yet another go ahead score with 18 seconds remaining in the game. That play was called back for an ineligible man down field. On the 4th down play with 18 seconds remaining, the Mustangs were forced into a Turnover, which sealed the Mustangs fate with a 14-10 defeat.

The Mustangs will be back in action this week for a matchup vs Berea-Midpark.

Join us for our Community Tailgate on Friday before the game from 5-6:30 in the high school parking lot. We will also recognize our Girls Golf Seniors before the game on Friday.

NEW TICKETING PRICES FOR THE GCC

The Greater Cleveland Conference (GCC) will be raising admission ticket prices for all athletic events beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. In May, GCC principals approved the increase in athletic ticket prices after GCC Athletic Directors conducted a review of ticket prices for surrounding conferences in Northeast Ohio and found most to already be at these price levels. Ticket sales revenue generated from the events is the main source of funding used by member schools to cover costs for sports and the overall athletic department budget. While costs of game officials, security, sporting equipment, along with all the other costs associated with these events have increased and ticket prices have not. The increase is intended to help offset costs without sacrificing family, student and community experiences. This is the first price increase the GCC has issued since the formation of the league in 2020. The GCC consists of member schools Brunswick, Cleveland Heights, Euclid, Medina, Mentor, Shaker Heights, and Strongsville.
